Magazine – Real Life (1978)

2 Mins read

After leaving The Buzzcocks, Howard Devoto wanted to be part of a more sophisticated project. So he started a synth-punk band in 1977. The following year, Real Life would be released to widespread acclaim, hooking critics and fans onto the nascent phase of a budding genre.

First Block

After the Buzzcocks break-up, standard-bearers of punk-pop, Howard Devoto formed the Magazine by putting together an amazing line-up with John McGeoch (guitar and saxophone), Barry Adamson (bass) and Dave Formula (keyboards). The result of their efforts represented somehow the continuation of the 70s british art-rock scene, but Real Life also embodies the spirit of post-punk and will influence new wave’s trajectory for the next decade.
